Meet Adoptable Frankie!
Frankie is a 18 month old, male, 60-65lb, Husky X German Shepard, mixed breed. This fun-loving, high spirited fella has come a long way since being found roaming free on the mid island lands last Christmas, and then he was adopted. Unfortunately, he is coming back to us.
He is now 99% house trained. The occasional shoe still gets chewed if left out, as do other items on rare occasions, but he is doing great and just needs some more stimulation perhaps. He is 90% car trained – he does some whining when unsure of the route he’s on, and he is s 70% leash trained, and will do even better with more exercise and an owner that’s willing to place in the work. His high prey drive kicks in at the sight of all small furry creatures. He is also nervous of some high traffic volume, loud vehicles like trucks and motorcycles and crosswalks.
He is not fully trusting of all humans yet, but has been very kind to some, and unsure of others, he just wants them to be respectful of his space. He does enjoy a good lean-in for snuggles and loves to be stroked by his family people, but also likes some personal space. He has not yet found the love of baths, nail trims, drying of paws or visits to the vet. He tends to get mouthy in these situations.
Frankie is working really hard with his trainer on his basic obedience commands of stay, wait, place, leave it, on, off and come. He will need ongoing help with these as he is a true Shepard/Husky cross – smart & stubborn. His trainer is willing to continue his training with his new family.
He enjoys the company of most dogs, but some can overwhelm him or make him uncomfortable. Having a large dog to play may be best as he is a rough player and sometimes his good puppy manners get forgotten. He favourite game is chase-me; which he wins due to his lightening fast running speed. He does have a gentle playful side too.
Frankie will do best with a very active person that has a confidence and the time to give him what he needs. A big yard to run free in with a confident dog-smart owner who ideally has only a few occasional visitors. Small children are not recommended. He will be great at patrolling the property for unwanted wildlife, but would not be suited for cohabitating with livestock or small furry pets.
Frankie has had a bite incident to an arm while he was in his adopted home. It was with someone who was there to do chiropractic work on him that was wearing a mask. Please message us for more details on this incident. Frankie has been working with his trainer for months now and she sees how sweet and kind he can be, that in no way is he an aggressive dog, but he does have confidence or trust issues in certain scenarios that he’s getting better with. The trainer has offered free sessions for his new home.
This handsome boy really is just young and high spirited that will become the best well rounded dog he can be with the right owner.
